I never really thought of myself as an academic. I mean, I was on the 20-year plan for my Bachelors degree. As much as I love learning and studying and researching, it never occurred to me that more school might be in my future. But on my birthday this year I learned I’d been accepted to a Masters of Liberal Arts program.
So yeah, I’m excited . . . but the bulk of my delight is reserved for how I’m going to craft my program. That’s right: I get to design my own program. There will be creative writing classes; classes about horror and the Gothic; classes about YA literature; and classes about politics, religion, and/or women’s studies. Essentially, I’m going to end up with a Masters in young adult horror literature. No, really!!
I’m still trying to get a handle on how I’m going to manage my time–working full-time, going to school part-time, still writing fiction, and finding time to travel and feed my film habit. I suspect I’m going to sleep less. That could lead to some interesting plotlines, eh?
